LAFAYETTE PARISH, La. (KADN) – A Scott man is in custody after police said he stole a box truck at a Scott Goodwill warehouse Thursday morning.

Scott Police said the Gordon Philip is facing motor vehicle theft and other charges following the incident.

It happened just before 11 a.m. on Alfred Street.

In a release, SPD said that Philip got into the truck and started driving off. A Goodwill employee was in the back of the truck but managed to escape and call 911.

A short time later, a patrol officer spotted the box truck on Westgate Road. The officer attempted to pull it over, but Philip wouldn’t stop.

Instead, he turned onto Eraste Landry. He lost control of the vehicle and ended up off the road, through a wooden fence, and onto a private property.

While he narrowly missed hitting the house, Scott did crash into a metal outdoor kitchen.

Philip would not leave the truck but with help from a Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office canine, they were able to arrest him.
